From Drum Corps World - August 1986:
Continuing its theme of recognizable popular music, the second year Star of Indiana journeyed into familiar space territory with the light cinema music of John Williams.
The Academy Award-winning scores from "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial," and "Star Wars" were the bookends for the show, with the symphonic "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" as the centerpiece of the production.
The sixth place brass scores showed the strength of the corps, but fans were entranced by the "trekkie" auxiliary unit, complete with white fright wigs, and space suit outfits. The lovely white starburst skirts used last year served double duty when they became dashing capes.
Oddity and experimentation in the auxiliary unit kept things intriguing with double "L-shaped" poles used in the "Adventures on Earth" segment from "E.T." The "Conversation" from "Close Encounters" was the shining star of this production with a single soprano pleading for an answer from the 18-contra "mother ship." The cacaphony of sound built as the movement intermingled across the field to a deafening, exhilarating finish.
"The Throne Room" and "Finale" from "Star Wars" capped this space trip with deep, rich cool colors gracefully moving around the field, until bright yellow flags accentuated the ending effectively, signature star formation and all.
